World News It's All Relative Did You Know? Opinion On The Streets
Just when you thought it was only the strippers who got to have all fun...

36 women from all over Canada, some from as far as Nova Scotia, will be congregating in Vancouver on October 13th, 2012 to compete for the title of Canadian Pole Fitness Champion. A title awarded to the greatest athlete, not stripper.

Each competitor has placed in the top three in their respective provinces for their place in The Canadian Pole Fitness Championships. With all the recent controversy surrounding Pole Dancing for all ages, organizer Tammy Morris hopes this event will educate the public on how athletic this sport really is.

Though it is a 19 + plus event, being held at the Edgewater Casino, Morris says it would be an event appropriate for all ages. “The moves are inspired by Chinese Pole”, claims Tammy, “at this level, it resembles nothing that you would see in a strip bar, it’s time people view these woman as athletes not strippers. Out of 36 competitors, only two have ever been exotic dancers.” Tammy has created an Association that sanctions the events in hopes that Pole Fitness will one day become a recognized sport.

There will be 2 shows and 5 categories including Doubles, Masters (over 40) Amateur, Semi-Pro and Professional. There was a men’s division but it has been cancelled due to lack of submissions though there will be a male pole dancer doing a showcase to demonstrate the diversity of the sport. The winner of the National Pro Division will be flown in November to Zurich to vie for the World Pole Dance Championship.
