World News It's All Relative Did You Know? Opinion On The Streets
To all the men out there! Have you ever found yourself without words trying to explain the extremely close friendship that you have with another man? Of course you have!

Well look no further. Bromance, defined as: a close but non-sexual relationship between two men, has now been included in the world renowned Oxford Dictionary. Popularized by the relationship between womanizing character Barney Stinson played by Neil Patrick Harris (NPH) on the hit sitcom How I Met Your Mother, and his 2 male friends Ted and Marshall, Bromance is now an official word.

It still amazes me that Doogie Howser has transcended his former role, and become such a cultural icon. Among other things, NPH has made phrases like, “Legend… wait for it… Dary!”, “Suit Up” and, “I’m Awesome”, not only popular, but part of daily conversation.

Barney Stinson, you are Legend... - Well you know the rest.

Other words added to the 2011 Oxford Dictionary include:

  • Buzzkill: a person or thing that has a depressing or dispiriting effect
  • Cheeseball: lacking taste, style or originality
  • Chillax: calm down and relax
  • Frenemy: a person with whom one is friendly despite a fundamental dislike or rivalry
